What 5 tools would you recommend to someone starting a new allotment for the first time?

There's an impossible question, I think I'll have to cheat!

1 & 2 : You must have a spade and a digging fork, both stainless steel and I prefer long handled for the spade at least.
3: You really need a hoe and a rake, is there a double sided tool? If numbers are limited I suppose just a hoe.
4: Another difficult choice. Need a hand fork, big trowel and planting trowel. This is where I cheat. Get a set of all three and count it as one item like the S&J Neverbend range.
5. A lump hammer. With climate change and all the violent storms it is bringing you can't do without something to knock in all those stakes or netting supports. Buy one that's a single casting so the head can never fall off.

I would try to sneak in a Hori Hori knife. Mine is in constant use & so adaptable.

Not familiar with Hori Hori but it sounds good as a multi-tool instead of my 3-in-1 cheat. Doubt Tony will take much notice of us, another disappointing response that doesn't fill the forum future with confidence.

It is still a puzzle that the online community are still not contributing to the forum Geoff.

I used to think perhaps new folk felt it was a bit insular as the same old folk keep posting & maybe they feel intimidated, but have ruled this out as they have no difficulties jumping in & asking questions on online FB forums. This took me back to the actual set up with all the various topics & being unaware just where they should post something, you have to admit it is quite a long list & I did ponder just where to post when I joined. Mind never stopped me but I am the mouthy Aussie!

If it was just set to post things regardless of topic like the online ones it would not matter as you just add your answer, the original poster is the one to think of an appropriate title to their query which even if unclear a quick read will enlighten you as to their issue. Probs should include a 'like' option though to control the number of answers & open to oversea's contributors as we might need to rely on their knowledge with the Global change.

What do you guys think, whether regular responder on here or just reading think? Especially if you are just reading, it would be interesting to know what is holding you back. KG obvs has a big market following due to the mag & should be able to lead, stick to the how to grow, treat, repair, buy the best tools, seed offers, new products, amusing children, what's happening in other countries from their growing perspective? Maybe even twin/triplet with another part of the world?
