Hi, just wondering about sweet potato slips. My sweet pots have died back so I harvested them today and was thoroughly disappointed. There were 3 small tubers and the rest were around pinkie sized.

My question is, could I plant these tiny little tubers to grow for next year? Type was Beauregard.

Thanks

Hi Myrkk!
If they are small they are likely to dry out & shrivel if kept to next year & won't sprout.

By sheer luck I found a large tuber in the bottom of my veg rack that had started to grow shoots a few years back. I tucked it back in it's place which was actually dark as I have holes in the bottom of my veg rack & pop a tea towel in the bottom which was flopped over them. When I checked it nearing the time for nipping shoots off to put in water to root they were huge & rooted really quickly & profusely. Since then I have help back one good size tuber each year. You could just use an organic bought one for same results.

They thrive on neglect so don't overfeed; I don't feed at all. Also not too keen on too much water; not exactly able to avoid this due to the weather this year. :( They also like it warm so won't thrive if temp too low so covered will help, mine are in the tunnel, but it's been lower temps in there than previous years as well. My vines are still green so haven't taken any yet but expecting smaller so will see & I will post a pic.

This pic is last years,
