With all the wintry weather we are having and the odd nudge from some Forum members, thought I better get my act together…..that’s without Monika looking down on me!!

I had Big Bertha out this morning, to go over a couple of rows of standing Helichrysum plants….she didn’t like the cold too much, as the carb got a bit icy and made her splutter a little…. But she still got the job done!

Just when we are having a heatwave - been up to +3.0 today but falling again. Snow not far away in Windermere.

A light covering of snow this morning on some frozen hard Winter digging.
The sunshine was brief...fog then descended for the day...minus temp' numbers all day.

This afternoon's National One rugby match was strang.
From the bar I volunteer to run we could just see players at the halfway line, we're twenty foot behind one dead all line offset slightly from the posts.
At times we couldn't see the posts at the other end and a few times couldn't see players in the twenty-two.
Reasonable support given the minus two temperatures, but at halftime the support pretty much halved.
Sold a couple of buckets of mulled wine but barely half a barrel of IPA.

Fog all day down here which was quite thick, but not freezing. For an hour of so I couldn't see the school behind which was weird. Temp going up tomorrow again to a balmy 10C max & 8C min so will be able to get the other half of the shed cleared & it is holding for a few days so might thaw the soil in the compost so I can finish the last top ups. Then I will prep the shed base as I have a load of hexangular pavers that will link together & cover the whole base & more.

But as expected I have a couple of questions. This area is not waterlogged at all & very firm, well walked on & level. I was going to lay double black membrane under the pavers, will this suffice & should I fill the gaps between pavers with concrete or sand, I was going for sand, mainly quicker & less messy? And 2nd question is what is the proper boy name for the drills that will make holes in the pavers to secure the shed so I can ask the neighbour to borrow one - OK not borrow as that would be madness but ask him to help with this bit. You can buy a flooring for the shed but it is just a plastic thing. Cheers as usual!

I'd go with sand and they're masonry drills.

If they are proper block pavers, with a little ridge on the sides of them, you will only get kiln dried sand to go between the joints and that’s if the pavers are dry…..so you shouldn’t need anything, really!

Your friend will need a hammer/percussion drill with a masonry drill bit….

Just been tidying a few bits up over the allotment but, rain has stopped play!
Might take the carb off one of my chainsaws now, as the saw just won’t run right…..have been told it needs a new carb…..

Stortford had a good win at my old club last week at Leicester Lions too

It must be all down to the mulled wine….

Forgot to say, Clive, love to see Winter dug soil come up lumpy like that, as it gives the frosts something to work at!

The frost has already had a good go at it, the day after it was dug in fact...but this morning it was much more white..
..enough locally that the snowploughs were out and about.

Yellow warning tomorrow so a day at home as got wet enough today. Shed cleared fully today in between the showers, including all the area behind, but no painting attempted yet as timber is pretty damp & no little sun showing on the weather so might be a while before that is possible. I've got some patching & repairs to do to fill in the time though as the rats have been trying to get in under it, luckily the chicken wire under it has stopped them but they have gnawed the bottom in a few places.
