The theory is that they allow your provider to provide you with a better service, looking at what you have browsed and then offer you things they think you may like, personally if I can, I switch them off, I don't want big brother thinking for me, some with a busy lifestyle may actually like the cookies work.

Best avoid Google then Tiger!

I google the Remarkable2 tablet at work, as someone's "reasonable adjustments for disability" review by DWP had recommended it.

It now haunts me on YouTube with constant adverts.

Drives me batty with the computer trying to preempt what I want/need/care about. I care about face to face interaction, with real folk & as I assist the older people in the close find things on the computer I am bombarded with things totally irrelevant to me. Shame you can't block forever on FB, but think I might sign up for paying to remove ads which the new Meta owners are suggesting, but can see this few £'s increasing quickly. Maybe not; as surely the millions still using this platform will make them happy with the overall revenue?

I use Duckduckgo for web browsing, also vpn on opera all free.

For completely private browsing there is Tor & Tails.

I never accept the tick box for cookies and all cookies are wiped when I shup pc down.

I clean pc regularly using CC cleaner.

All these are free to use.

Colin sorry but what is CC cleaner?

Also one more question which is probably rubbish; if I click allow cookies does that store on my computer as well as being nicked by the site? I routinely click only allow relevant cookies not all cookies & think they are stored somewhere on the computer using my memory - is this correct? I bought max memory with this computer but there must have been thousands of my random clicks for things & places either gone or bought out now so I would like to clear some of the rubbish.

I do try to understand the Apple help site but I don't speak computer language & even though they dumb it down they are just too anorak; not to mention the conflicting info from others that also answer the questions.

I assumed it meant computer cleaner but on checking it originally meant Crap Cleaner, which is exactly what it does.

All sites need to store cookies so yes when you accept necessary cookies they are stored on you pc. Note these are not very large so will not take up much memory.

They are used to make it easier for you when you return to a site.
Example:
When I visit amazon I get the nag screen "Select Your Cookie Preferences" this is because I have deleted their cookie from my last visit, if I left it their it would not show up.

You can do a search on your pc for cookies to see how many you have.

Unfortunately marketing cookies are the ones that send you the junk and monitor your movements around the web.

If you are worried about using too much memory you try cc cleaner to see how much is being used without deleting anything..
