Had a yogurt flavoured with prunes with my evening meal.Supposedly prunes ,which are only dried plums after all, have a reputation for easing constipation due to their high fibre content and in fact there used to be a saying years ago which stated"prunes makes the going great!!!"
Why then why isn't the same said about fresh plums??

If you Google "do plums have the same effect as prunes" you'll find lots to read. Prunes are of course simply dried plums but I haven't found anything that suggests you should choose a specific variety for drying. Having said that there are varieties that sound specific, we grow one we bought as "Giant Prune" that is not very nice off the tree but lovely cooked, never tried drying it. It seems the effectiveness, which has been proven, is more to do with changes that take place during the drying process.
