I'm not really very used to living in a flat these days - not since my student days.
We had a wonderful flat in Kyiv but there was a herd of wild horses upstairs. (Family with young bam-bam children. They drove me mental.) Now we're in a rented flat across the road from our own house. Have met the guy upstairs (in the flat above us). He's very nice, not least because he works abroad and doesn't live there most of the time. And now we've met the guy who lives in the flat directly below us. A very pleasant and helpful (he helped husband take heavy boxes from lift to car) Oriental gentleman. I grow some exotic herbs. (Legal!) I wondered if he might like some. He would.

It's so nice to get to know your neighbours. We never really had that in a street. It's kinda different in a block of flats. And I will try to tread lightly and not cause the downstairs guy any grief.
