I'm a member of a work/hobby-related social group. They'd planned the club's 60th birthday bash three years ago. That was cancelled because of Covid. And not feasible for the next couple of years because of lockdowns and social restrictions.(Maybe we should have claimed it was "work-related" as most of the members are professionals in the field.)
Anyway, now that people are more free to socialise again, the belated party was arranged for next month in a pub in London. Now it turns out that there's a train strike scheduled for that day so it's been cancelled again.

You're right, Colin. It was a very different world then. Most of the founders are long gone.
I personally didn't join until I was in my late 50s. I kinda thought of it as an antidote to some bloomin' hassle we were going through at the time. It was great. It's essentially a social club but it's been very difficult to be social over the last few years.
