I dunno where people get these daft ideas. I mean would you buy a pencil that grows into a spruce tree?

But the one that really takes the biscuit for me is the Dolly Parton wig for dogs.

What have you spotted recently?

BTW, you can go to your usual search engine and search for Dolly Parton dog wigs for an eye opener of good laughs!

My husband says that maybe it's worth getting a dog just so we can buy one of these wigs. I don't agree. Pets are not allowed in this building and anyway I would treat a dog with more respect than that even if they probably don't feel embarrasment.

When I used to go out drinking a lot, many years ago, it was always the hand knitted Christmas jumpers that the blokes had to wear Christmas day, so not to upset anyone…😀

My granny used to dig into her storecupboard when dishing out presents. An ancient box of silver plated dessert spoons covered in verdigris comes to mind, not to mention various unopened boxes of chocolates stored away in wardrobes over the years which had turned white with age.

John Lewis is doing Santa visits for dogs.

"Treats" include some foodie items and compostable poop bags. I guess dogs have all the luck. I've never been given a compostable poop bag for Christmas.

Whatever next, eh?

Years ago when we had a cat I did wrap a catnip herb filled mouse in wrapping paper and put it under the tree for him in the spirit of Christmas.

The joke was on me. We came down in the morning to find he had sniffed it out, ripped the package open and in the "high" which had followed, he'd pulled all the lower decorations within reach off the Christmas tree !

And then there was an elderly relative who still gave me an Enid Blyton book when I was in my late teens but as she hadn't seen me for many years I suppose that was the age t which she last remembered me

Enid Blyton book - LOL! (I was a big fan as a child.)

One year when I was already doing quite a lot of chores to help in the house, eg cooking and laundry, my paternal grandmother gave me a toy iron.

I’m trying to think what Christmas present would have been the silliest, that I have been given…

A friend once bought me a steam train clock as a novelty gift....

I admit now to opening the box and thinking it looked a bit tacky...but dutifully put the battery in and set the time. Then went for an after Christmas lunch snooze only to be abruptly awakened on the 3 o'clock hour to....Woo Woo, Ding Ding Ding, chuff chuff chuff, clickety clack.....

Think that,s rwther w nice old fashioned sound to be woken up by. Much more pleasant than my alarm clock's far from dulcet tone.

Finding it hard to be in a Christmassy mood this year. The world and his brother all seem to be singularly intent on being nasty to each other and causing as much hassle nd disruption as possible. Think I'd be quite happy to hibernate and wake up when it,s all over!.

Unfortunately Primrose you could be in hibernation for a long time! I never feel overly Christmassy as just too commercialised. I don't bother with a tree or lights but I do send cards; (not Xmas themed) to my close friends with a long personal note & receive the same in return. It's good fun receiving them back with reminders of the silly things we have done or seen, sometimes old pics enclosed. We then catch up via messenger group after Xmas as some of these friends are world wide. It is a bit chaotic with computer issues & over excitement but such great fun! Yep we have few bubbles as well! ;)

We're never in the Christmassy mood. Goodness knows how long ago we last had turkey, sent Christmas cards, or even bought each other presents.

However, this has just been a complete sh!t of a year recently so I've bought a couple of small items for Mr S. Also, our new neighbours here gave us a very pleasant card with good wishes so it seems very churlish not to respond. And when we were a bit stuck for somewhere to stay for a week back in September we were able to stay in David's friend's Whitstable flat again and she absolutely refused money so we built a "Christmas corner" in her flat instead. (Just a very small tree with a heap of stuff underneath it.) Just stuff like that. I'm grateful for the kindnesses shown. "Christmas corner" was her term for what we've left. LOL!

Funny how the smallest gestures can have a big impact!
