Fieldfares

I moved a flock of sheep into my orchard yesterday to help with clearing up all the apples that have fallen and this morning I looked out in the mist and a large flock of fieldfares could be seen gorging themselves, I expect the redwings to follow soon. At least my wasted apples will be appreciated by the birds.

Dear Barney, they are not with us here yet but, really looking forward to their return.

There are hundreds of Fieldfares and Redwings along with several hundred scattered Waxwings that have come over from the continent in the last week or so, sure they will be spreading around as there's barely a berry left on a bush round here now.

The Fieldfares turned up a couple of days ago, Barney, not many of them but, lovely to see them!
The Deer started nibbling the tops off my Broad beans, so had to cover them up, what is a real pain….

Shame about the nibbling deer OH, I'll expect they will soon recover with you tending them. Redwings are now plentiful here, putting up with the bossy fieldfares chasing them away from the apples, I expect they will soon turn up in beautiful Bedfordshire.

Merry Christmas
