Gene edited crops

I was skimming through an article on this topic this morning.

I,ve previously been rather against the idea of practice, perhaps not fully understanding exactly what was involved.

However the potential world food shortage partly triggered by the Ukraine war seems to be forcing many people to review their ideas on the efficiency of crop growing using such techniques.

If the tomatoes, wheat or other items we eat taste no different and cause us no harm, perhaps we have to accept this is the way crop growing is going?

And who knows what will happen to we humans in the distant future?
I know there are all sorts of ethical arguments about experimenting with humans but if scientists in the future could edit out conditions like arthritis, cancer etc surely everybody would benefit?

The NHS might be a long term beneficiary but pension schemes might go bust having to pay out to participants for much longer. As always with these issues it might be a case of "Beware of what you wish for".
