We had a really good time! Very nice accomm in the White Horse Inn on the High Street - friendly, lovely people, great pub and very good breakfasts! Plenty of good charity shops on the High Street for me to raid for cookbooks.

Some High Streets these days are terribly dull. But this one was more interesting. I'd like to visit Maldon again sometime if we're still in the area.
We visited The Smokehouse, which was nice for the river view and nice, I suppose, for the food. I'd thought we'd see the smokehouse and get a tour but it was really just a restaurant and shop. It was nice but I doubt if we'd go back.
There was a butcher on the High Street - Salt and Sausage or something like that. (Strange name but top quality butcher.) I wanted to make a lamb curry when we got 'home' and knew I wanted 600g of lamb neck or shoulder. Unfortunately old-age kicked in and I forgot the word 'gram' so I just asked the butcher for 600 of it. He didn't bat an eyelid. After he'd packaged it, I confessed that I'd forgotten the word and had almost asked for 600 kilos. He said he'd be very happy to sell me 600 kilos but he was happy enough to sell me 600g.

By the way, the curry was WOW! Of course, I'm a great cook but having top quality ingredients is a big help.

Really, Maldon is a good place to visit.
