Thanks for all your good wishes. Had a rare foray to a couple of garden centres to buy some perennials for a bed that has been fallow for 18 months while repeatedly treating couch grass with glyphosate, I hope it's clear now.
By the way have you caught up with this series of programmes, episode 2 will give you veg plot envy
