I bought a poppy plant Oriental (Scarlet King) recently. Repotted it into slightly larger pot, (whilst giving me time to think where abouts in garden I'd eventually put it) and it thrived.
Until a few days ago when I noticed leaves were turning a bright yellow. I read that this was down to over-watering so decided to plant it out.
Now things going from bad to worse.....holes are appearing on leaves, couple leaves are eaten away. Slugs?
I read that poppies are quite immune to pests and diseases, but this doesn't seem to be the case here.
I have circled the plant with a mixture of sharp sand and salt....hope this will help, if not shall have to grow it in a (another) container.
Anybody else have this problem with poppies?
Would appreciate any advice.

Hello Gory B, another impusle buy i presume.
I have quite a few oriental poppies, but none have as much as a nibble missing, i have just been and looked. Maybe you have some oriental slugs and snails in your garden.
But i think it's probably just the wet weather, theres slugs and snails everywhere and they seem to be eating everything in sight, i'm sure things will return to normal when it dries out a bit.
Kind regards Old Herbaceous.
We will always get some sort of weather.

Hi Old H....I hope that was a typing error on your part....Gory B indeed!
You have no problems then with your poppies? I'll take your word for it...
I have lovely lush weeds growing nearby, (been out clearing some this afternoon of course) why aren't the slugs interested in those??
I hope you're right about them improving when better weather arrives.
Thanks Old H....

I'm so sorry Glory B, it was definitely a spelling error and not done intentionally.
I do hope that you will except my humble apologies.
Kind regards Old Herbaceous.
Theres no fool like an old fool.
P.S I forgot where you made me all nervous, i think it's something to do with the chemicals in certain plants and weeds that slugs and snails don't like.

Well...not sure....oh well if you're really as humble as you say, I guess I can accept your apology.
Anyway, I can't dish out any 'real' punishment at the moment, the whips are still stashed away in the loft!

Don't get OH over excited Glory B.
It's scary.
Still, i'm sure he wont mind if you dust off the whips and chains. He'll probably hold the ladder for you.
He might even insist on it. He usually does!!!

Well Lizzie....these words of yours speak volumes!
What is it you keep in your loft that interests Old H so much. Cuttings and seedlings? Yeah right!
Best regards,
Glory B
