Is the brown/yellow patch ons the back furry or hard? If the latter, is it some sort of shield bug?

Awe! retropants - blow on the wee guy to dry him out & warm him up so he can continue looking for early nectar! Hard enough struggle for the wee guy this time of year as it is! Says Westi that rescues worms in puddles, especially fed Wingie the bird for weeks & even put a wee wooden box under the black currant for him/her to stay dry! I do draw the line at rescuing slimy things though & was the first to evict the adder, but might even welcome her back considering the number of rats!

He sat in the sun for a while then was gone. I have a good selection of winter flowering shrubs, so hopefully he found something to eat. The clematis armandii smells incredible today. So many flowers!
