Mice in the allotment shed

I'm not surprised that the get in but it must be between the top of the walls and the corrugations of the roof. Everything else is screwed down. I know that if you can get a pencil through a gap, a mouse can get through.

I don't even mind the eating the bird seed (they haven't attacked the peanuts, which surprises me.

But I do wish they would clear up after themselves!

Oh, Stephen, what a mess. We got that a few years ago and since then keep all the bird food in a large but 'carriable' plastic bin which I take outside to fill the feeders, so that not a grain is dropped on the shed floor.
When I recently mentioned the mice in our greenhouse, Sally Wright suggested sprinkling hot chilli powder or cayenne pepper. I did and so far, so good. Perhaps you could do the same?

In all honesty Monika, it isn't so very bad but thank you for your sympathy. There was another shelf covered in seed too but the whole mess took only 5 minutes to clear up.

It was more an attempt at creating something of a smile amongst the friends here.

I'm sure mice need to live too. Last winter (or possibly the one before) they ate most of a fleece tunnel! (They might not have eaten much but certainly cheeed a great deal of it). Lord alone knows what that did to their digestion!

They like the fleece to line their nests. When I take up the black plastic each spring I find little bundles of fleece & grass underneath. I'm happy with mice - to a degree, so tolerant is a better word but rats are another issue entirely!

Our garden is bordered on two sides by tall dry stone walls (including one very old one, covered in ivy) and these are full of mice. We do like watching them from the windows but I draw a line to them coming into the house, shed, garage or greenhouse!!

This is how I found my seed box in the barn/storage. The box was stacked on top so apparently the little guys climb high for some good food. Those were some of my seeds! Fortunately those were not fertile, they didn't germinate last year. I just couldn't throw it away and now the mice made my decission.

Luckily the good and fertile seeds were stored in closed trays with a lid on! I took it with me indoors on the first day. And the box is put back down in the storage.

Grrr. How annoying.
But the poor little things will be hungry and cold in winter.

I found 4 mice in my water can, unfortunately I filled the can before I found them, resuscitation failed miserably.
