I have plenty of flowers but no fruit yet on my outside strawberries, it promises to be a nice bumper harvest.

Lots of fruit here but none of it ripe yet. We're at the "Oh - asparagus - how nice" stage of the year.

They, or rather their parents work the patch next to ours
They know no better-they are 3
Everytime I went round for a dish of strawberries they seemed to be depleted!
Their Dad had been allowing them into our garden to help themselves!
I gave them their own plant!
GRRRRR...

I should have a stern word with their dad. At 3 you're right, they know no better, but he damn well should and if he doesn't, what hope for the kids?

He's not my favourite person!
I got DH to speak to him as I was to cross :?
We've put a gate on this year! This may deter them

My first year in the poly tunnel and I have one huge strawberry which is nearly ripe - we are going to cut in half and share it between us! Lots of others to ripen up too - nice when something goes right. They are planted off the ground in old wheels so the nasties haven't got to them!
Polly.

Hi Jopsy
they are the metal rims from lorry wheels that we found in our woods when we first moved in - managed to put them to some good use. They are about 18 inches high and about 2 foot in diameter. I have one in the tunnel with about 7 strawberry plants in and two others outside. Filled them up with compost and planted with strawberries as an experiment. The tunnel strawberries are ripening up nicely, the ones outside are getting soaked again at the moment! - Cold too! rotten weather :x
