Funny you should mention bindweed, Peter, I have a couple of patches in my front garden. One that comes from under a shrub and another from a big old rose bush. And although I thought I had done a good job of getting it out again, in the Autumn, I noticed yesterday that there is a lot shooting up.

I'll have a bit more practice with mine, before I come and help with yours...

Lottie 1 & 2 looking prim & proper - great feeling until I remember it is like a bridge & I'll be saying (& doing) the same thing in Early Summer & Summer proper - but at least there is a bit more foliage on the plants so maybe not quite as many weeds!

Things are moving along nicely especially in the greenhouse
Sweetcorn is going for the roof again

Hungarian Hot Wax chillies have got a gallop on this past week

Butternut Squash just starting to flower

Tomatoes are starting to set fruit and a couple have had the growing tip nipped out

Ridge cukes are growing some fruits too

Outside plants are coming on too
Mammoth Red Onions grown from seed sown last December in a heated propagator

Trench celery experiment is working, just remains to be seen if I can blanch the stems ok

Pot Leeks look pretty healthy too

I'm over the moon! I picked a 36cm perfectly straight & blemish free cucumber from my greenhouse at home! Grown steptoe-style, I didn't hold out much hope, but it is quite spectacular! This is my first harvest (apart from strawberries) after we gave up the allotment.

Well done Retropants . No wonder you're thrilled. That sounds a very good start to your home growing. I hope its eaten with the due reverence it deserves!

Congrats Retropants! The fact it is straight is amazing, I don't think I have ever had a straight one, or if I had it wasn't that long!

thanks so much! after 27 years of growing veg, I didn't think I could still be this proud! I'll get a pic of what's left, only made 2 rounds of sandwiches with it so far.

What wonderful pictures of healthy plants. I'm still awaiting the ripening of the first tomato (in the greenhouse). The raspberries didn't produce any fruit this year. However, sweetcorn is looking good. I think I'll plant more next year and cut down on the kale, seeing as it's only me (and a friend's tortoise) that's eating it.

yes, my mum has also discovered that a little bit of kale goes a long way!!
