Indeed. Yule does mark the turn and has for a couple of millenia, probably.
May spring arrive early in 2019.

Thank you Alan. I did say a silent Yippee this morning at the thought of it being the shortest day. I know things don't move very quickly but at least psychologically we've now reached a turning point and that makes these horrible long dark nights a little easier to bear. Hope springs eternal! Just wish some of the aching arthritis joints could have a similar improvement to look forward to !

It's after new year I notice the difference when it's light till after 4-30

Funny how we don't even note the difference until a few more weeks but how psychologically it is such an important event. Like Primrose I also said Hallelujah when the weatherman announced it this morning.

Every year, immediately after Christmas, I buy a bunch of daffodils and pick a few hazel brunches to see in the New Year ...... It's so nice to look forward.
