I've had the chimney swept ready for winter, got some wood to cut up, mostly small stuff for kindling.
Been gardening for over 65 years and still learning.

We,ll all be descending on you for a warm when the winter power cuts come! Must seem a bit odd chopping wood for stoves in a heat wave but perhaps not so hot where you are ? Hard to sleep thiugh on such sultry nights.

It was 26 degrees yesterday and we have 16 at present, I pick my jobs to avoid the hottest part of the day and break the jobs down into smaller segments, yesterday the two of us treated the big summer house with oil based wood preservative, we were finished before eleven, so not too hot. Rain is forecast for next week, so doing those jobs now that need doing outside, try to do a couple of jobs a week so they don't add up, wood chopping will be done later in the month if it cools down.

There is something compelling about watching a kingfisher! I've only ever saw a flash of one years ago when we took a canal boat holiday. Except this moment it was not too much fun, I fell off the boat tripping over the ropes, then told after I had symptoms of whatever was polluting the canal you were supposed to go to hospital for antibiotics. The dog was anchored to a wee table at the back & managed to pull the table out of it's fixings & then with same dog in tow going for a pub lunch through a church yard shortcut got surrounded by cows very unhappy about her presence! We cut that holiday short, I did finally get antibiotics on return & was fine but not a pleasant journey home.
