Reading back over this thread and seeing a Siskin mentioned has reminded me it's many.years since we have seen one here. Like greenfinches they used to visit our bird feeders regularly snd then suddenly without our noticing they were no more. We don't even see sparrows around our house now.
We had to stop putting bird feeders out because of a growing rat problem but not having them makes it harder to track which species are suddenly going missing from your local area. Perhaps we need to reinstate them again despite the rats so we can better track what's happening. (We have 3 rat bait boxes in our garden which are regularly emptied so we know the rat problem is still ongoing yet we hardly ever spot one. Suspect they,re mostly visiting after dark now.

Siskins tend to be in our forests and I see more of them in the winter monthsPrimrose wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 8:39 am Reading back over this thread and seeing a Siskin mentioned has reminded me it's many.years since we have seen one here. It's our only Woodpecker in the forest, we had Green Woodpeckers, but they seem to have vanished and there are no Lesser Spotted in Scotland at the moment.
