One of the enjoyable things about our site is that there is often something happening in the near vicinity to watch if you want a short break from your labours.

Next to us we have a private airfield, which played a very important role in WW11. It is therefore quite common for us to instinctively duck as a Spitfire or Hurricane passes directly over our heads as they take off or land.

We are also not far from the old GWR mainline and now and again, if I get the timing right, I get the opportunity to see steam on the mainline.

And sometimes, when the Police helicopter isn't passing overhead as it lands to refuel in the corner of the airfield right by us, I even get something done on the plot !!!

Wonderful....and look at all that blue sky. Very fond of steam trains....I used to travel in one as a child...in the Guard's van..all by myself. My mother would put me in charge of the Guard at one station...and I used to sit on everyone's suitcases..surrounded by crates of pigeons, dogs in boxes, etc. and when we got to the station (a few stops along)..my aunt would be there to meet me. It was all very exciting. I don't think it's allowed now! Love the smell of a steam train in the morning.

Great views, especially the choo choo train, we are not scheduled to get any steam this year as the route has been change to go to Inverness via Perth and not by Aberdeen as it used to.

Diane, that blue sky was this 10am Tuesday morning just gone (7/2/17). Temperature was 6 degrees but I had wrapped so warm that I ended up taking layers off when weeding

It was so misty out that morning that I decided to try using the camera on its video setting. That picture is therefore a still taken from the vid that the camera couldn't focus on well because of the mist

We have a model flying club that uses a field not far from the plots one crashed about a month age it came down behind the plot we had a good view as it descended I was surprised at the size of it, when the owners came looking for it we directed them to it as it was in the rough field behind us it most have had an 8 feet wing span

Diane, you should have our allotment if you like steam trains, because it overlooks the Embsay to Bolton Abbey heritage line with regular trains in summer and most Tuesdays and weekends most of the year! I always play the country yokel and wave like mad when they come past - children usually wave back but adults are a bit more reluctant.

I am impressed at the overhead shot you have managed to locate. Surprised you went to the trouble
I have been tempted for a while to do a drone shot but the proximity to the airfield has precluded it.

You have however reminded me that I have been lax of late removing the 'properties' from my pictures.

Good shot though, I like it. As you say the site has a good track, gate is shut and no one on site when taken

In practical terms you would think the track would be used clockwise, but no. Those who have plots top of site (left of picture, go anti clockwise and bottom of site vice versa.
