As I'm sure everyone is aware, Thursday's vote didn't go as expected, but thats not specifically what I'm taking about.

In the 2 days since, people seem to have gotten out of hand. Our great country so unified in the past seems split by the results. Today I couldn't even go buy compost at my local garden center without hearing an argument about the EU... Even my own sister won't talk to me, because I took offense when she said we should kick all Europeans and their families out the UK to "get our jobs back"
I just found that really offensive when my wife is only first gen British... I don't care what people think regarding in/out but seriously this has gone too far

I would like to state (following replys) that this is not a post about the political side of this, its personal.

Its me saying I'm upset my family is being divided by it, my neighbours are literally fighting in the streets.
I'm upset my daughter is not welcome back at her nursery because I didnt want to support the nursery in its personal leave campaign.
I'm upset because for the first time in my life, I am considering the possibility of having to leave the country of my birth to escape persecution from my family and former friends.
I'm upset because I've just had a letter through the door which read "You're next, Euro skum"

I'm sorry if anyone is offended by that. I posted in the belief that I could be honest. Thankyou to those who have sympathised and supported me. But for now, I must go. I'll be back at some point, once all this has died down.

I have many opinions on this most divisive of political acts, but I should keep them to myself for fear of being banned from the forum for initiating political dispute

So many people have not been taken in by politicians' lies since Tony Blair. This madness has already cost me several thousand pounds and who knows how much more is to come, it has killed one fine lady and who knows how many more to come. There is a simple solution, though it might be a hard nettle to grasp.
The decision has not yet been made, despite Cameron jumping in and assuming we have left the EU.
Any referendum is only advisory and not mandatory. The decision is not made till it has been voted on by Parliament, who could be brave enough not to go ahead. I doubt it will happen, though there is a petition started on Friday which already has 2,790,809 signatures.

My granddaughter, who lives in Glasgow, texted to say how proud she was of Scotland and that the county of Gwynedd voted to remain.

** It emerges that the petition was actually started in May by a leave campaigner from the ultra-right-wing English Defence League in case leave narrowly lost the vote! Then it was discovered on Friday and is zooming up! What an irony!

I'm sitting here in Spain waiting for the backlash , I did not think the British people could be so racist the thought of Boris along with trump is frightening , the closer we get to America the more British service people will loose their lives

There has been a demonstration in Barcelona by expats all with banners saying we are European seems there was a couple of thousand attended, i wonder how much all this has cost surely it would have been better spent on the health service

The petition for a 2nd referendum has a great many dubious names on it from a great many countries. It is wide open to abuse and should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Sorry pa. Normally I steer clear of political discussion on here. I'm just in such a state over the way everything's gone, and how racist people around me are getting, I needed to say something.

particularly my sister not talking to me, and not being able to talk to my dad without him spouting off about the referendum and how I cant complain about the outcome because its "what the whole country obviously wanted" I feel like my life, my family and my friends are being torn apart

This little corner of the internet is about the only place where I find any hope in humanity any more.

ive actually avoided forums for the last fortnight or so because of the heated arguments.


but i can remember us joining the common market.
i can remember my business and large parts of uk agriculture being trashed by the eu in the early eighties along with our fishing industry

for me as an almost retired small businessman it boils down to do we as a nation want to decide where were going or be told by brussels.

nobody has a crystal ball to see into the future, i can remember the economic experts who got us into the european exchange rate mechanism , the same experts that said we had to join the euro or else.

all the remain campagne could come up with as arguments for remaining were frankly ludicrous scare stories.

just look at the share prices/market values and pound/euro/ dollar rates over the past few years theres been no long lasting movement either through the referendum process or since the result.


over the years we as a nation have tried to get the eu to reform or change direction and have been ignored , camerons recent effort was as sucessful as chamberlins, since friday theres been some signs of a recognition that the eu needs to reform because there are exit refurendum movements in france, sweden , denmark, holland , check repuplic, greece and even germany.


as for the snp an independant scotland without uk funding is not going to be accepted for eu membership... the independance argument there has fundementally changed , either they remain part of a non eu uk or they paddle there own canoe in the big wide world with their own currancy etc, etc. totally different scarier scenario than the utopian part of eu with uk as an eu partner that the snp has been promoting..


im surprised we voted out , but now its happened its time to get on with it and make it work at all levels for everybody.


and yes ive got offspring studying in europe , ive got family living in europe as retired expats.

I'm really confused how this has got so political. Seriously, it was a complaint about racial hate being on the rise after the referendum, and people fighting over the result.

Dan, i'm not sure if you will get read this but, i have dealt with more than my fair share of racial abuse about some of the members of my family, through my life, and all i can say is, stay strong and you will get through things. It does make it even tougher when it's trusted family and friends doing it though.
