asparagus shoots

Last year I planted Jersey Knight seeds and got 7 out of the 10 I planted. Put them in the soil in late summer and they did pretty well.

This spring I've gotten three tiny tiny green shoots that seem to have been snipped off by slugs or something and two larger purple shoots that look like what I think a one year old asparagus shoot should.

Are the first three good signs of life or is only the bigger two proper growing asparagus?

If the first 3 are wispy, green things that develop a slightly fluffy, grassy look - they're fine and will be thin purple shoots next year.

no fluffiness yet, but I'll keep an eye on them.
Thanks.
