Broke open those bags of Mushroom Compost, that I was mentioning some postings back. The stuff looks pretty whitish and smells of lime, my allotment handbook (by Caroline Foley) says it is best left in a heap for the lime to neutralise and any pests to disperse, unless anyone can give me a better suggestion I will follow that plan.

Hi Compo,a lot of the white stuff will be the mycellium or 'roots'of the mushrooms which will generally go once it's exposed, the lime is only usually on the top so you could slice off and stack the top layer and break up and use the lower section if it seems well rotted.
