I've been growing a"Bonanza " dwarf peach in a pot for about 10 years now. It s been potted up and fed and is about 3 feet high and 3 feet wide without pruning. It had over 40 small to medium fruits lat year.

The year before last I potted up a seedling peach growing from a discarded stone in the compost heap. I've put it in a larger pot this year but am wondering whether I will be able to get decent sized peaches if I restrict its size by not potting it up too much,bearing in mind that it is a full sized peach tree not a dwarf.

Also I'm hoping that it is a good flavoured variety. I suppose that it has more chance of coming true to type than an apple pip for instance. I'm going to see what its fruit tastes like any way before I decide to keep it and should have some to sample this year with all the flower buds it has.

Has anyone else had decent results growing from peach stones and/or in pots?

Nice looking blossom, is it fragrent

We are surrounded by peach trees here in Spain but not one is blossoming as yet,the farmers only leave 2 peaches on per stem discarding the rest they say to many on each branch only gives small peaches

I'm my experience, (with bonsai apple and plum) a 'full size' fruit tree will simply stay smaller if root growth is restricted.

Not tried peach, but I don't see that you've got anything to lose by trying. Growing bonsi is a fun project

It still had over 40 fruits on after drastic thinning. I try to space them to at least 4 inches between fruits. Perhaps I should leave even more.

It won't exactly be bonsai the pot is quite large but I think it would restrict the roots when it gets larger. Anyway it is on probation until I've tasted the fruits.

No it's not fragrant PaSnip. The new one is almost fully out today and has much darker blossom than the other .

Right, re reading this post has persuaded me to get a nice big pot in the corner of my greenhouse and try and raise a peach tree... although, it may end up having to face winter outside in a few years if it grows like yours lol, my greenhouse is only 3'X6' lol

I can report that my new peach tree has produced ten almost full sized fruits and that they taste very nice when fully ripe. It is a yellow fleshed cling variety. Considering it came from a stray stone I'm really pleased with it.

The only problem I've had are the woodlice nibbling the fruits so I'll have to think up steps to avoid this in future.

My new Crimson Patio peach trees are doing really well. Only their first year as they are replacements for failures last year but You Garden were great & they were replaced without any issues, but obviously had to wait a year until they were available again. They have great foliage, tucked under the eaves so no peach leaf curl, easy to water & right beside the back door so easily remembered as well. I may put them in the greenhouse over winter but they are supposed to be hardy so will see. The fruit are quite small but they will end up full size fruit when the trees mature. Can't wait for a taste - not too long to wait now!
