I get very excited waiting for the seedlings to come through and have a bet with myself and my husband (who humours me) about which will be first.... I check the windowsill every morning while having a cup of tea.

So last Saturday I started a few few off - ten points to the first person who guesses right on which of these were showing life this morning:

Globe artichoke
Frilly sprouts (petit posey)
Thyme (free with the kg mag - never frown from seed before)
Various chillies

The second were just starting to show so bonus points up for grabs!

After just over a week I would agree with alan. Be very surprised if any of the others beat brassica germination

It was so so tempting to start sowing lots of things in the last few days' sunshine (temperature in the greenhouse rose to 20C with all the flaps open!), but I am going to be really control myself this year to be patient, especially with the forecast of a very cold second March half!

But I do already have seedlings of sweet pepper, chilli pepper and celeriac, at the moment still on a bright windowsill indoors. By the beginning of April, the greenhouse will be heated and lots of stuff sown.

Correct! Sprouts in just 5 days! Second to germinate was thyme (although I'm not holding my breath on that surviving)

My Frilly sprouts up & lively as well. I've potted on some tomatoes already, basil looking happy, lost one lot of aubergines to damping off but second sowing in new compost looking sturdier. Little green dots showing the leeks are coming up too! Nice to see the light improving which will help with all the rest.

I had a little experiment in the unheated greenhouse with some pea shoots & some mixed salad leaves to pep up bought salads over winter. Pea shoots are spent after about 5 harvests (Brilliant result), but mixed salad was too slow to take any - but I now have lots of sturdy little plants just begging to go out & become full lettuces, not just some leaves! Might take a few down lottie & pop them somewhere with protection to see if they take off. Weather looking pretty stable down this tropical end of the UK for the coming week - fingers crossed!
