I notice a well known seeds merchant is selling the above at £3.99 for 70 sets. Just been into my ubiquitous Pound Shop and got 300G for the usual £1. [ 87 sets, 8 binned. ]

I got some garlic bulbs for 10p each. Ok, a bit late, but put them in pots and all are growing! At that price, definitely worth a go even if they don't turn in to anything. Equally, they may be better than the ones in the lotty which have probably rotted due to the weather.

Not late for garlic yet surely.
Overwintering varieties certainly late but lots of garden centres, shops and nurseries have only just put spring planting garlic bulbs out in last few weeks.

Since wilkos are selling garlic now, I think it's a perfect time to plant... Not that I have a garlic bed at the moment... I'm 1/2 way through redigging my growing beds. Finally decided to level it out and put the raised beds I got last summer up... Typically I got the raised beds because of an injury, and now I am actually fitter than before... Just in more pain

The garlic's i got for 10p were for overwintering - but at 10p what's the worst that can happen! They're already a cm or so it'll be interesting to see if they grow into usable garlic compared to the ones which went in at the end of October.

In my humble opinion, if you just let it grow as normal, and wait till the leaves go brown (depending on soft/hard neck variety) it may be a slightly later harvest than the October planted ones, but they should still grow just fine
and as you say, for 10 p, it's almost worth it if all you get is compost from the dead plantOnce the game is over the king and the pawn go back in the same box. Anonymous

I was down at Lottie today , sorting out how many losses from my overwintered sets with all this wet, mild weather, but very few surprisingly. A few bird pulled ones sitting on top of the soil but the roots were in the ground so they were growing & easily fixed.
Thought I had a bunch of leeks growing under the pear tree, as had some leeks that had bolted & flowered near there. Glad I left them to decide whether to use them, as the very strong pungent smell of garlic wafted from them today & I was able to clear a bed right near the other garlic & fill it with these very established garlic. These ones have lost the clove itself, unlike my others so maybe will have a early harvest, but no clue how they got there or what the variety is. Cost Nil!
