Aaaagh, wildlife

There I was. I'd just removed the few weeds in one of my raised beds, forked in some blood fish and bone, and watered a strip I wanted to plant up. Off I went to get the seeds, and when I got back 10 minutes later, there was a female pheasant making a 'scrape' in the middle of the bed. (I've stuck some canes in now to deter her.)
As if that wasn't enough, I planted out some very young beetroot from modules at the end of the afternoon. Went to check this morning, and half of them had been pulled out. I suspect spuggies. I thought I'd finished with my cloches for the season, but I've hauled one out to protect what's left. I've pushed some of the plants back into the soil and hope some will survive.

Chantal, That cat of yours looks as though it has just had a "Spugie supper" (Sparrow)

Oh sparrows! Never heard them called that before.

No, my Rosie doesn't catch birds now, she retired a couple of years ago when she hit 15 and now she contents herself with watching and not stalking. :D

I thought everyone knew what spuggies were/are. Must be a Northern/Scottish thing.

Keeping the soil wet will deter pheasants from dust bathing.
