Compost infestation

I have several pots of early seeds germinating on my lounge window sill using the last of the previous season's potting compost. Unfortunately i now seem to have an infeststion of tiny black flies whixh have emerged from the compost and becoming a nuisance. I obviously don,t want to scrap the pots as seeds are starting to germinate.
What can I do or use to eliminate the flies? Would lightly spraying with with a household cleaning disinfectant like Dettol spray do the trick without harming the seedlings? I have nothing else immediately to hand in my gardening stores and the compost bag is emoty now so don't want to buy a treatment that may probably not be used again.
