We picked a handful of figs in late summer. There are now about 20 smaller figs, some of which appear to be ripening. The ones which don't ripen, do I remove these, or leave them for next year? They are about squash ball sized, smaller than the first flush.

Are they outside? If they are they probably won't do much now and will just go rotten in the winter. I've got an indoor one that keeps slowly ripening a few at a time into winter. I picked some just before Christmas one year. Thanks for reminding me to have a look at the outdoor one there might be a few left on it.

Dear Retropants, it is the tiny pea sizes ones that will form into the fruit for next year. The squash ball ones, will just go rotten and fall off, if we ever get some cold weather....

Dear RP,
these figs will not ripen now or survive the winter to make figs next year so what about making green fig jam or a variation thereof? There are lots of different recipes online, just pick the one you fancy making.
