...or maybe just bloody lucky!

This is Gwenfrewi, one of my three-year-old Bluebelles. On Monday evening she was grabbed from the flock by a large dog fox (a mercifully very rare visitor in these parts). I was alerted by the fuss all the other birds were making and shifted the fox by bawling across the field a couple of F words - only the second of which was FOX  He dropped her and she ran away. She must have put up quite a fight judging by the feathers she lost and the skin torn off her thigh. Since then she has been caged by herself and amazingly has laid an egg every day since. I am hoping she remains as fit as she has been for four days and that the wound heals.

Good for Gwenfrewi and for your defence, of course, Alan! I hope she recovers fully and provides you with plenty more eggs.

Anybody seen the photos in today's "Daily Telegraph" of two cranes at Slimbridge defending their chicks from a fox? He looks positively scared.

Lucky, Lucky chicken. I expect the eggs are a reward for rescuing her! :D

Keep a very close eye on her wound for maggot eggs, Alan, they are the scurge of livestock at this time of the year.

If Codgers hens stop laying, we will let the fox in and see if we get the same result. :)

What a lovely story and hopefully she'll get through the trauma.

Welsh-girl, see. :D

Sorry Alan, I try my best.

Wow what a lucky girl! Hopefully that fox got the message and won't be returning.

Her wound is healed now and her feathers are half grown back. She's laid six eggs a week since her "adventure" and she's dining out on her expoits now all are back on the field!
