Strange Worm

Was up the plot digging today and came across a sight I've never seen before. It looked like a worm being eaten by a slug. Normal healthy worm about 6" long with about 2" of much fatter pale bit on the end. It wasn't a slug and the end of the worm was firmly attached and into the end of the pale section. Is this part of worm reproduction? I didn't have a camera with me so couldn't take a pic, so any suggestions as to what this is?

New Zealand flatworm, or one of its relatives?

Now, was this a worm eating slug, or a worm-eating slug?

Good old hyphen
