Im sure I have read that puting previously used compost, from maybe last years flower pots in the bottom of the spud trench is a done thing. Or have I just imagined this

Dear Elen, spent compost can be used for many things, but a potato trench is a good a place as any.

Hi Elen
For the last four years, we've use a mix of fresh commercial compost, leaf mould, and home grown compost to grow potatoes in 75l and 100l pots, as well as half compost bins.
Seems to be a good starter for early and second earlies - plus we then have several tubs of startup compost for this year (although we won't use it for tomatoes)
