Potatoes of the night

Does anyone else remember the Billy Connelly tale about 'potatoes of the night'?
He went into a small cafe for a meal and the menu said potatoes of the night, he went into a long rambling story about his vision of special harvesters with nets(?) going out to catch the elusive potatoes of the night, a rare variety gathered by moonlight. He brought everyone back down to earth when he realised that it was like 'soup of the day'.....

Just seeing the post for Glasgow potato day brought the story back to mind and I have visions of everyone in Glasgow wearing a potato in their button hole. Best of luck with the potato day by the way.

Dear MW, it's funny how certain things trigger off certain memories, isn't it. I think it can be the scent of something that has the biggest effect for me, Chrysanthemums, Tomatoes and Geraniums always take me straight back to when i was working at the Manor as a boy.

OH, The smell of chrysanths takes me back to when I was an apprentice working in an old nursery that had it's glasshouses built up the side of a steep south facing hill. Another smell from those times is the acrid, sharp tasteable smell that was the chemical store. I'm sitting here at my laptop in my little office and that smell is real to me just thinking about it.
