I planted up a new strawberry bed today with a variety called 'Loran' from B&Q, £5.98 for 15 plants which seemed like good value. Does anybody know anything about this variety? 'Cos it's a new one on me and I'd like to know if they'll be any good, though I s'pose it's a bit late to worry as they're already in!

Hello Jude
A new variey I guess. I 'googled' it out of interest and a few people are now selling it. It looks like a very good mid-season variety. Have a look at:

From their prices you got a really good buy at B&Q.
I see Nicky's nurseries sell it as F1 seed - £3.55 for 5 seeds. B&Q wins again!

Do beg your pardon, John, but you sounded so knowledgeable that I just assumed!

Never heard of the variety of strawberry you have bought, but I think the old adage 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating'. Wait until you taste them. Then you will know wether they are good, bad or indifferent. Having said that, I have never known a local grown, in season strawberry to taste anything but wonderful!
