I am so proud because my nephew from Zambia is racing a motor bike in the Dakar. On the second day he is up to #32 place from 172 place. He raced last year a broke his leg on the next to last day. Last year he obtained a lot of sponsorship to enable him to continue this time calling it Unfinished Business. His name is David Reeve #102 and his father would have been so proud of him. Unfortunately Tom Reeve died five years ago of pancreatic cancer. He taught his sons well to ride off road and David has won numerous competitions all over Africa. They also have a huge competition on their farm near Mazabuka every year in memory of his father. If anyone is interested in the Dakar it is shown at 10pm on Eurosport every night. The dunes alone frighten the life out of me.

I used to watch a lot of the Dakar rallies years ago, I now mostly concentrate on the motogp series, as I am usually short of time, there's only so much motorsport one can keep up with, especially when my dh really does not enjoy it at all!

An update on my nephew. Unfortunately he had an accident last night and has dislocated his knee and torn ligaments after hitting a rock in the dust/poor visability and coming off. There are two others on the Zambian/South African team who are continuing. He is devastated but at least he is almost in one piece. Thank you for your comments.

Thank you RP. He is so gutted not to be able to continue but at least he is alive. There have been a lot of accidents in this year's race.
