Was looking at the butchers counter in my local supermarket. Was puzzled that ox-tail [some 40% bone] was dearer than stewing steak [no bone]

Morning Shallot Man, i have to admit, nothing surprises me with supermarkets anymore, especially when it comes to prices.
That was rather good, John....
Having half a Lamb delivered this evening, raised by the Sister in law. It's costing £65, what i think is very reasonable.
Not sure if it's the front half or the back half, though.

Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

We buy lamb from the farmer in the village, last one was £100 but I think that was a bit of a favour. When we bought the first one farmer asked my wife afterwards what she thought of it. "Funniest lamb I've ever seen, four left legs!" "Trust you to know". She was brought up on a farm. He takes his lambs to the local auction/abattoir where they slaughter and butcher them and pack as halves so we got halves of two lambs. It is always beautiful meat.

I'm sure the price goes up if a trendy chef has had a recipe on the telly for a particular cut. I went into my local butcher for some pigs liver only to be told that he'd sold out that morning because it had been on the telly the night before
