Ever walk into a room with some purpose in mind, only to completely forget what that purpose was? Turns out, doors themselves are to blame for these strange memory lapses.
Psychologists at the University of Notre Dame have discovered that passing through a doorway triggers what's known as an event boundary in the mind, separating one set of thoughts and memories from the next.Your brain files away the thoughts you had in the previous room and prepares a blank slate for the new locale.

Thank goodness for studies like this. It's not our age, it's that damn door!

Primrose, I have just come in from the kitchen, so i can't remeber if you have sent this before, or not...

Cant waite to tell my wife this one, she had a stroke last year while abroad which has left her with no short term memory, she will walk through a door and forget every thing she was thinking of

Whew - that's reassuring!

My biggest problem is remembering names (it's not new though!). Consequently everyone I know is 'mate', 'chook', 'darling' etc. They seem quite happy with this generally but I once called the chief exec 'mate' He just raised one eyebrow & smiled thankfully. Someone find some research to explain this - I just know I'll get labelled with dementia or cognitively impaired in a few years with this particular trait!
