Hi Elaine & Motherwomen,
There's me posting and complaining that I had no swallows & Martins around here

just after I posted I spotted (well heard first) a smallish flock of about 10 to 15 on a north/south heading down towards Cheshire
Then later on this afternoon when I went to my allotment to feed my hens and I spotted a rather large flock of birds feeding over the allotments they stayed for about 15 minutes but they headed off in a south west direction so I am assuming that they will be taking a coastal route.
I have come to the conclusion that as we have had such a good summer that Swallows & House Martins have had a very good breeding season and that is why they have got off early, might be wrong but its the only answer I can come up with.
Regards
Arnie
