Hi

Can anyone recommend a good sowing & growing wall chart/calendar as I have to get myself organized I have missed so many dates for sowing my veg its not funny I keep saying to myself its alright they will catch up which in most cases they do but this year I started my french beans rather late and now all I have is a mass of foliage and flowers but no beans as yet
so I am praying that the weather holds so at least I will get at least a meal out of them

I'm afraid I use my own. I have a big spreadsheet based on week numbers (I spent many years in manufacturing where everything revolved around delivering orders on time based on week numbers) that I use with a pound shop diary every year. I enter the plan in pencil during the dark days of Winter then record what I do in ink. Over the years it gets tweaked a bit. It does mean I rarely forget to do something. I raise most things in modules and try not to react to the weather. I have various levels of protection (propagator, heated greenhouse, warm shed, cold greenhouse, polytunnel, cold frames) so can start things by the calendar, I may delay putting things out because of weather but I don't bring things forward because it nearly always bites back if you do. I have had a go at writing it up for others but I'm not sure how useful they have found it. Trouble is that vegetables have a great urge to grow whatever we do to them, we might try something new in a good season like this one and it will appear to work so we do it until a new idea takes over. If you don't experiment you are dead (like mankind in general).

Thank you for your reply, I too keep records of what I plant but not in as much detail as you so it looks like this will be my project for the forthcoming dark nights when I cannot get to my allotment
If its OK with you I will be back in search of no doubt many stupid question
I have to say that your comment about not reacting to weather was a telling point and made a lot sense and hopefully I am going to adopt for next year
