Fuss

What's all this fuss about yet another child born into a life on state benefit? I suppose it is a bit unusual in that the parents are married. Don't think I'll win much betting on Prince Spongebob.

I had four of those and the only person on a ladder was cleaning the windows

I think you are a bit of a curmudgeon, Geoff. The birth of any child is wonderful, I think, wherever and whenever, and if people want to make a fuss and enjoy it, so what? Like MW, I have had four of them and obviously also got involved in the birth of our nine grandchildren and there was much rejoicing when all had gone well.
We don't have a TV, so I don't know how much fuss there was on there, but I think the BBC radio kept it just right. I just hope, the young couple will now be left on their won to enjoy (and suffer!) the fun of having a newborn.

Hi Monika,

I'm still waiting for the grandchildren, I think I must have been too successful with the sex education

I'm still hopeful though...

I hope they enjoy their baby while they can, the publicity will start all too soon.

Royals hit back and refuse to name the child Geoff

I suppose all Georges out there are feeling smug today!

You are probably right Monika, I just hate the whole royal privilege thing and its destructive influence on our success as a nation in the modern world.
I would be as chuffed as anyone if my only son fathered a grandson, me being an only son of an only son (and grandfather's brother's line died out too) the family line is pretty fragile.
I think the name was pretty inevitable (how long to sister Mary Elizabeth?).

I hoped for more of the common touch - "Long to Wayne over us..."

I am neither 'for' or 'against' having a Royal Family. I enjoyed waiting for the news of the birth, and seeing them with their new baby, looking as proud as anyone else in that situation. Good luck to them.

The Royals may appear to 'have it easy', but think on this:-
* The Queen is about 87 and is still working. She hasn't chosen/been allowed to 'retire' and take up knitting. She's probably going to pass away without ever having enjoyed a retirement. I know I wouldn't want that.
* They all have pap.s following them wherever they go. They can't even break wind without it making the headlines.
* They couldn't go to a party and get outrageously drunk (well, most of them!), then stagger home in the small hours.
* They may have been born with a silver spoon, but their lives are never 'free', never their own.

Now, don't have a go at me. These are just some points to be cogitate.

Remarkable she's survived so long breathing in paint fumes every day.

Common touch would have been there if they had spelt Louis properly.

You are forgiven, Geoff. Anyway, I don't think babies are a 'man thing'.

And, MW, in case you think my children have been irresponsibly fecund, the nine grandchildren (six lads and three girls, from 7 up to 27) include three stepgrandchildren who are no less precious to me than my own.

Monika, I love big families and I just wish mine would get on with it! A friend of mine with three children in their thirties thought she would never be a Gran'ma but one of hers has come up trumps and is expecting in August. Colleagues at work keep showing me pictures of their grandchildren which I admire greatly but I want one of my own!

So enjoy your family and I certainly wasn't passing comment on excessive fecundity! (lovely word that.)
