'Simples' - I think not!!

Saw the article in this months magazine about making garlic plaits. That looks simple I thought, after all I can do the onion one OK. What a joke! After remaining calm and having about 1/2 dozen goes I resorted to trimming the stalks and putting them in nets again.

One always fell out, had big gaps, got confused about which stem I was wrapping over / under or whatever. A think the basic problem is I can't plait - that explains why I've always had short hair! (All I can say is lets hope macramé doesn't get popular again - I can't do knots either!)

Hi Westi,

Every year I'm going to plait them, but always just end up putting them in nets. Never seem to get the time to try it :)

I thought I might leave a longish stalk this year and tie them in bunches. Just cut one off when needed.

Probably end up netting them again though

I don't so much plait mine as wrap the string around the stems very tightly, adding one at a time and then trim the stems. Might seem like cheating but as long as you don't remove the stems when using garlic/onions the string stays intact. :)

Dear Donedigging, i always tie the ends of a length of string together to make a circle, hook the string above my open barn door, then twist the dry stem around one of the sring and then back round the other.

As for cooks nylons, the amount of ladders she ends up with, they would only hold the largest of onions, me and my rough hands..... :)
