Hi, I have a 2yr; old tree which the foliage was all killed off by frost damage in early May. Would you expect it to produce some new growth later this year, as to date nothing is showing? Thanks in anticipation. Ian.

I would expect to see something showing by now. I'm thinking maybe it was not frost that brought it down, but something else. Apple blossom is affected by frost, but not usually the foliage. But you never know, something may yet appear.

Have a little scrape of the bark on one of the branches, if there's still a green layer you're in with a chance. If not keep working your way down the tree with small scrapes, if there's nothing when you get to the bottom of the trunk it's dead.

Make a small nick in the bark, is it still green. if so, might recover.

Many thanks to your responses to my recent query, the leaves were just opening from the buds, a nice pale green, when we had a sharp overnight frost, coupled with a very cold wind. All the leaves subsequently turned brown and shrivel. I have as suggested, removed, a tiny amount of bark, and it is bright green beneath, so shall have to be patient and " watch this space " Regards Ian.
