Bread paddles

I make my own bread in a machine but get very irritated at the end when I have to extract the mixing paddles from the base of the loaf. I use the hook supplied with the machine and cut round the paddles with a sharp-pointed knife, but invariably end up making a mess of the loaf base as the bread sticks to the paddles.
Can anyone offer any tips on ways to do this with minimum damage to the loaf? Thanks.

usually the bread just drops out of mine and leaves the paddle behind. only on one or 2 occasions have I had to extract it! mine is a Panasonic.

Until recently I was having a similar problem, with the paddle on my Panasonic breadmaker ripping great holes in the loaf or needing to be surgically removed. Finally, in desperation, I searched on Google for replacement paddles and found that I could get a Teflon coated replacement (as well as the 'bog standard' type). Since purchasing this I have had no more trouble; the paddle remains on the spindle in the pan and slides from the cooked loaf like a dream, leaving barely a mark. Well worth the purchase price, which was only about a pound more than the standard replacement. Have a look, and see whether Teflon coated paddles are available for your model. Good luck.

I have a panasonic bread maker too, umpteen years old. I had to replace the actual whole insert once as a bit broke on the underside and they did not include a paddle with it so I'm still using the original. I don't usually have a problem with getting the loaf off it but I do wonder why the teflon one doesn't come as standard on a machine of this quality.

If you let it stand in the pan for a few minutes before trying to remove the loaf it usually comes out without the paddle getting stuck. Mine is a Panasonic too.

Mine's a Bifinett, from Lidl's for £20, so I guess I can't expect much. Sounds like Teflon paddles would cost more than the machine! I wonder if the fact that I use olive oil in the mix makes it more gluey and adhesive? Anyway, thanks for comments.

Oil shouldn't make any difference, I use oil instead of butter in all my doughs and loaves now and I've not noticed any difference in stickability!
