LEEKS

Whilst propping up the bar at the rugby club, putting the world to rights. Mentioned during a rare lull in the conversation that I had yet to buy spring onion seed. Up pipped one who seems to know everything, that his grandfather who saved his own leek seed year on year always used leek seed sown thickly as spring onions. Still not certain if he was on a wind-up.

I can remember my Dad doing that. They would be milder in flavour than a spring onion but no reason why you shouldn't use them just the same.

Ooooo.... tension with the kitchen department there then!
I've eaten thinnings from leeks, the ones that were too small to bother with etc and they are quite tasty. I would say milder than spring onions.

Very interesting. I wonder if they would give me a migraine like spring onions do. Mind you, it doesn't stop me eating spring onions.

That's an interesting one Piglet6. I suffered with migraine for most of my life till my late 50's when it did start to decline now I rarely have one. I have heard of many things that are said to cause migraine but never spring onions. Leeks and onions and usually cooked would it be something to do with eating Sp. onions raw I wonder?
