Birds hiding.storing food

Saw some interesting crow behaviour in our garden today after throwing out some gristly pieces of meat. Our regular visiting crow ate his fill then picked up all the remaining pieces in his beak and wandered around our borders, scratching little holes under scattered leaf mould and then hiding them. I've obviously seen squirrels indulging in this behaviour many times but never birds. Is it common? Whether he'll remember where he buried them and will come back for them is something I'll have to try and look out for.
