FSA to prosecute in raw drinking milk case
The Food Standards Agency has confirmed its intention to prosecute Selfridges Retail Limited and the farmer who supplied the company with raw drinking cow milk for sale, Stephen Hook, for breaches of food hygiene regulations.

Didn't it used to be sold with a green top?
My friend's grandfather used to have a country pub with farm buildings attached and he used to milk the cow into a glass for us as a treat. It was warm and frothy and smelled and tasted horrible, but I'm sure it would have been nicer chilled. Fortunately we didn't catch TB or anything!

My mother's cousin caught TB from raw milk, was lucky to survive. I don't see that it is worth the risk. I have tried raw milk and it's no different from good old full fat (you can keep your skimmed).

When my children were small we lived next to a farm and the farmer offered us raw milk, but a doctor friend said that, if we had ever seen raw milk under a microscope, we would not dream of drinking it. So we never have.

I was brought up on the stuff, as long as it is pasturised and now't taken owt its still the real thing. Today with some of the best testing for TB etc, the national milk herd is at its safest it has ever been. If its from your own cow for your own use there is much less of a problem.

I grew up with green top milk, from the milkman, or we'd walk round to the farm with an empty bottle if we ran out. I've watched the cow being milked, poured the milk through a cooler where it passed slowly over a corrugated plate cooled by springwater, then dripped into my bottle, ready for me to put the foil capsule on with a hand tool.
Tasted great - and quite significantly different to pasteurised milk. Think of the difference in flavour of a fresh, minimally cooked tomato soup and a tin from Heinz. That big a difference. I think I must have had it every day for the first 10 years of my life. And survived !
