Why in Jobs for January- page 8 'quick jobs' (whilst in the depths of winter) are we being advised to spread Sulphate of Potash round the base of our fruit trees and shrubs, when in large letters on the front of the box it says " quick acting fertilizer to boost flowering and ripening of fruit".

Cheers, Tony.

I don't have a box to look at as I buy it loose from our allotment shop but I have always sprinkled round all fruit except Strawberries in the early Spring (end of Feb/March|)when they are all 'waking up' and starting to grow again. I wouldn't do it now with all the rain about it would only get washed away.

Magazines are printed in advance and it must be difficult to predict weather etc. I think you have to be sensible and use them as guidelines/reminders only.
