Dried fruit has gone a little mouldy

Just found a large container of dried fruit in my cupboard, some of which has got some mould on it. Am loathe to throw it away if it can be rescued. Any ideas on the best way to do this? And would it still be safe to eat?

I wouldn't eat it, Primrose, even if you cut off the mouldy bits. It's obviously past its safe eating date.

No Primrose - leave it alone! My OH got food poisoning from his mother putting that in the Xmas cake! Xmas was OK but he didn't enjoy Boxing Day!

I would put it in the compost heap - more use there than risking making anyone ill.
