Strange Sweetcorn

From a batch of sweetcorn plants bought from a local garden centre, one developed a strange purple colouration.
The plant concerned only yielded one cob and this is a picture of it. I know the maize in various parts of the world does produce different coloured seeds, but I assume the plant I grew came from a batch of normal seeds.
Is it a mutation? Will it produce similar coloured cobs next year, if I so the seeds.

No, as only one came on the plant, I want to keep the cob as is, grow the seed next year and see what turns up!

I'd guess that somewhere some seeds were mixed up.
It looks at bit like this
http://greenbarngardens.com/catalog/i22.html I think the coloured ones are often just grown for decorative qualities rather than to eat.

By heck, that is very close. Looks like you might be right.
